Excellence in Construction Awards

ABC's Excellence in Construction Awards program is the premiere competition within the construction industry that recognizes outstanding construction projects across the nation. In 2010, the following ABC member green building projects received the highest honor, the Eagle award. 

CONEWAGO ENTERPRISES
Fairfield Inn & Suites - LEED Gold, Green Tomorrow Winner
Baltimore, MD
Commercial - $10-25 Million

 

Conewago transformed an urban brown field into Baltimore's first LEED Gold-certified hotel, maintaining the 88,721-square-foot project's 13.9 million budget and 13-month timeline through flexible scheduling.  
 

ANSWER HEATING & COOLING, INC.

Chippewa Nature Center - Nature Preschool - LEED Platinum, Green Tomorrow Winner
Midland, MI
Mechanical-Commercial - Less than $2 Million



Answer's work on this zero net energy, LEED Platinum-designed nature center required the installation of radiant floors and below-ground high-density polyethylene blue plastic ductwork during harsh winter conditions. 
 

CADELL CONSTRUCTION CO., INC.
Design/Build FIRES Brigade Headquarters - LEED Silver

Caddell delivered 77,300 square feet of secure office space to the U.S. Army, finishing the LEED Silver project 73 days ahead of schedule with zero  claims, quality deficiency citations or lost-time accidents.

Caddell introduced complex climate, electronic control and HVAC systems during the construciton of three pre-engineered combat simulation buildings located on separate sites--logging 322,000 accident-free manhours in eight months.

New U.S. Embassy Compound - LEED Certified

B.L. Harbert and its team of French-speaking local workers completed this
sustainable embassy in Africa two months early despite significant contract changes, high disease rates, inclement weather, and unstable power and water sources.

Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center Area Redevelopment - LEED Silver
Las Vegas, NV

Helix concealed all conduit in this 16,650-square-foot LEED Silver visitor’s center comprised of five single-story buildings that feature open ceilings, curved walls, exterior exhibits and a 60-kilowatt photovoltaic system.

When Pirtle Construction outgrew its old office space, the company embarked on a project to build its new corporate headquarters with a commitment to sustainability while educating its subcontractors on green building techniques. 

Pirtle also received the ABC Greener Tomorrow Award for their outstanding performance in green building based on sustainability, water and energy efficiency, environment, innovation, human affect, construction waste management, commissioning and level of certification achieved.  
 

HENSEL PHELPS CONSTRUCTION CO.
Social Security Administration Operations Building, Repair and Alteration - LEED-Certified

Maintaining 50 percent building occupancy during construction, Hensel Phleps improved conditions for 4.500 staff creating atriums, abating hazardous materials and upgrading ventilation and communication systems in this 1.2 million-square-foot LEED-certified building.

B.L. Harbert recycled 75 percent of construction waste on this fast-track 43,000-square-foot design-build project while providing 3 percent savings for the owner and achieving LEED Gold certification.

On this design-build project with highly advanced security and communication technology, Caddell overcame sever weather, including more than 80 inched of rain, to complete the first LEED-certified U.S. embassy while providing craft training to local workers.
